In May 2021, the city of Ghent started the works on the roof of the House of Alijn. The museum remains open during the works.
What ARE OUR PLANS?
The chimneys and roofs are in urgent need of repair, to stop water infiltration and avoid it in the future. During this project the museum’s roofs, insulation, chimneys, rainwater drainage systems and some of the windows will be renovated.
- The works will take place in several phases and will last approximately one year.
- On this webpage of the City of Gent, you will find more information about the planning.
A genuine crane at Kraanlei
- To make the works possible and to limit the inconvenience, we will place a tower crane in the courtyard of the museum. This crane will deliver and remove materials. The courtyard remains partly accessible to visitors. We will place warning signs, to keep everything safe.
- During the works, scaffolding will be placed in the courtyard and around the façade of the museum.
Noise nuisance during the works cannot be avoided. However, we try to limit the inconvenience for the neighbourhood and the visitors to a minimum.
The museum remains open
During the works, the museum remains open during regular opening hours but is temporarily not wheelchair accessible.
The outdoor area of the museum café stays open.
